Summary of the role

The Controls Assurance Specialist plays a critical and highly visible role in delivering independent and robust controls assurance on behalf of one of Diligenta’s key strategic clients. As a client‑funded role, it carries significant responsibility for demonstrating measurable value, strengthening client confidence, and ensuring Diligenta meets its contractual and regulatory commitments.

The role acts as the primary operational interface with client relationship management teams, ensuring assurance activity is credible, well‑governed, and reflects best‑practice standards. It delivers high‑quality assurance testing, insight, and challenge, directly influencing the effectiveness of operational processes that impact customer and client outcomes.

The role partners extensively with multiple business areas including Line 1 Risk and assurance teams to ensure assurance outputs are robust, transparent, and drive continuous improvement. The post holder will also play an role in mobilising and embedding the use of Decision Focus, Diligenta’s new GRC tool, to embed the control testing module, enhancing assurance efficiency, data quality, and reporting capability.

What you’ll be doing
  • Client Assurance Relationship Leadership: Own the day‑to‑day relationship with the client’s relationship management team, ensuring testing delivery meets expectations, maintains credibility, and reinforces Diligenta’s commitment to quality and transparency. Influence and negotiate effectively to ensure issues, dependencies, and risks are clearly understood, accepted, and acted upon.
  •  High‑Quality Control Assurance Delivery: Independently execute complex controls assurance testing across key operational processes, ensuring high standards of rigour, objectivity, and auditability. Provide clear, evidence‑based conclusions that inform improvements and strengthen the control environment.
  •  Insight‑Led Reporting and Senior Stakeholder Communication: Produce high‑quality, client‑ready reporting — including dashboards, thematic insights, and control trends — that support senior decision‑making and governance forums (ERC, RMCC). Distil complex issues into concise insight that resonates with senior stakeholders.
  •  Cross‑Functional Partnership & Influence: Work collaboratively with Operations, Risk Partnering, Risk Specialisms, Compliance, and Financial Crime to ensure findings are understood, appropriately addressed, and embedded. Provide constructive challenge while maintaining positive working relationships, supporting cultural improvement in control ownership and behaviours.
  •  Continuous Improvement & Value Creation: Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, consistency, and quality of controls testing, contributing to improved customer outcomes, client satisfaction, and operational performance. Drive enhancements in frameworks, methodology, and testing standards.
  • GRC Tool (Decision Focus) Mobilisation & Optimisation: Support the deployment and operation of the Decision Focus GRC tool for control assurance activity, including data structure, workflow, evidence management, and reporting. Act as an advocate for adoption, working with business stakeholders to ensure the tool becomes the central enabler of assurance activity.
  • Controls Design & Framework Improvement: Provide expert input into the design, effectiveness, and sustainability of operational controls, escalating systemic issues and supporting the development of improved process and control standards across the business.
  • Governance, Regulatory & Consumer Duty Alignment: Ensure all assurance work upholds Consumer Duty principles and regulatory expectations, supporting good outcomes for customers and strengthening Diligenta’s risk and control maturity.
What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience in a controls assurance, risk, audit, or quality assurance role within financial services.
  • Experience engaging directly with clients, auditors, or senior business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high‑quality, independent controls testing and present outcomes confidently.
  • Experience working cross‑functionally in a complex operational or regulated environment.
