About This Role

Summary of the role:

The Banking & Payments Utility (up to 100 FTE onshore and up to 50 FTE Offshore) is part of the Finance Operations Utility and is responsible for the processing of payments, receipts, distributions and cash management for all Diligenta’s Clients. The utility processes a value of c£30bn in transactions over 6 payment channels and are responsible for the safe receipt and allocation of these receipts and payments which have tight deadlines.

This role holder is responsible for the provision of a technical service within the Banking & Payments utility which includes leading the Life & Pensions Controls & Oversight Team as well as Cash Management Technicians. Responsible for leading change activities (including coordinating SME support), Incident Management, Procedures & Training, MI & Governance, Financial Audit liaison & Client Assurance. The technical function supports approximately 3 million Life & Pension policies administered on both BaNCS and Legacy Systems.

The role holder will also have responsibilities for system access (Internet Banking, Bacs bureaus & Policy Admin systems), the Authorisation Framework & Matrix, Bank Account repository, ownership of the Disaster Recovery Plan, and champion the Direct Debit Bacs Scheme guidance and rules. They will be delegate for the Head of Banking & Payments and support planning activities.

What you'll be doing:
  • Leadership and delivery accountability to the required standard for the Life & Pensions Technical function setting clear objectives and priorities whilst supporting the Finance Banking & Payments Centre of Excellence as well as the wider organisation. This includes providing subject matter expertise to support programmes, projects and initiatives and the resolution of complex queries.
  • Responsibility for Life & Pensions technical activities, procedures and controls including Bacs Inspections, External & Internal Audits & Client assurance activities. Builds and maintains a holistic plan which captures Programmes, Projects and other key deliverables
  • Support Banking and Payments Issues and escalations. Drives all issues to closure to avoid impact to the business and client. Proactively drives root cause analysis and implements new measures to mitigate risks and prevent future reoccurrence
  • Champions a culture of continuous improvement ensuring operational processes continue to meet the needs of the business & are optimal in terms of efficiency and cost effectiveness. This will include identifying and implementing opportunities using process review and change methodologies. Regularly reviews all key Banking & Payments Processes and Procedures with a view of driving improvements to mitigate risks or to improve client, customer and colleague experience
  • Ownership of the Disaster Recovery Plan for Life & Pensions Banking & Payments and for ensuring all key-processes have a contingency plan in place should there be a loss of an individual system (BaNCS, Legacy or Banking System)
  • Finance Operations Banking & Payments Ambassador for compliance and adherence to the Direct Debit Bacs Scheme rules. Maintains a Bank Account repository, Bank Mandates, Authorisation Framework and delegated authority matrix including leading periodic reviews
  • Establishment of a suite of effective governance, controls and MI for the Life & Pension Banking & Payments Team’s activities. Supports the continuous review of the Banking and Payments governance and control frameworks to ensure they are fit for purpose. Ensuring all issues identified are appropriately recorded within the Risk Management System and mitigations promptly designed and delivered
  • Mentorship of others. Identifying and building on opportunities for continuous learning. Promotes knowledge sharing and is familiar with all internal knowledge repositories/sources.
  • Preparation and leadership of meetings, facilitation of workshops and delivery of presentations for a wide range of audiences, demonstrating consistently high quality of communication and influencing powers.
  • Active leader within the Banking & Payments CoE Department and delegate for the ‘Head of Banking & Payments/Senior Manager’ as and when required.
What we're looking for:
  • 10+ years working within a Banking or Treasury role within a Financial Services company
  • Banking or Treasury qualifications, either part or fully qualified or qualified by experience (QBE).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to build successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Effective stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to communicate at senior levels
  • Use clear and effective verbal, written and presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate at senior levels
  • Outstanding organisational skills, ability to plan workloads and delegate tasks
  • A systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Expert in MS Excel, Word, MS Visio and PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge of financial services (in particular Life & Pension) processes and regulations
  • Strong understanding of Finance and Accounting principles, practices and compliance requirements for the UK and Ireland
