About This Role

Summary of the role

To manage and deliver multiple projects delivering outcomes with corporate-wide strategic impact (benefits and risks) to time, cost and quality (expected budget £5-10M).. Programmes consist of multiple work-streams and are likely to be implemented over several years. Programmes will represent major change across several areas of the business additionally the role is responsible for helping to identify and implement the strategy for applications and technologies.

What you will be doing

  • Responsibility for delivery of multiple projects or a programme, ensuring delivery is on time, within budget, to scope.
  • Works with Programme Sponsor and stakeholders to understand strategic context and to define and agree Programme objectives, scope, approach and an appropriate governance regime
  • Creates and implements robust programme planning reporting and control processes, in line with agreed project lifecycle.
  • Integrate work-streams and manage cross-business interdependencies to ensure co-ordinated delivery
  • Select and manage a range of internal and external suppliers for service or change delivery
  • Identify financial and operating risks and issues affecting the programme and the business, putting appropriate measures in place to effectively manage and control
  • Manage interfaces with external stakeholders (business partners, regulators etc.) in order to ensure full integration of solutions
  • Overall responsibility for the development and agreement of budget and expenditure associated with major strategic programmes of change, ensuring that costs are contained within agreed levels and that the benefits are realised.
  • Lead, manage & motivate large, diverse teams and other resources and train such staff as may be assigned or seconded to work on the programme, including personal development and mentoring of colleagues at more junior levels.
  • Is able to act as a mentor for both the business and the IT areas, identifying pragmatic solutions for business or programme issues. Is likely to be regarded as an expert by several areas of the business in terms of change delivery and solutions.
  • Role model for project management discipline and key definer and driver of best practice
  • Provide the main interface between the Senior Management (Project Sponsor) and the Project Managers.
  • To provide input to and interpret decisions made by senior managers and give direction to the project managers including reporting programme progress to the Programme Sponsor, Project Board and Stakeholders both verbally a through written reports.
  • Responsible for chairing governance boards and championing governance processes

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience of project/programme management at a senior level in a complex business environment.
  • Experience of managing multi-million pound initiatives with major business risks/benefits.
  • Track record of successful business-wide programme delivery in any business context.
  • Experience of influencing at Steering committee
  • Accredited at Project Management discipline (practitioner level) (e.g. Certified project Manager, APMP, Prince2 practitioner, ISEB).
  • Attained/Progressing towards Programme Management accreditation e.g. MSP
  • Typically requires a tertiary qualification plus extensive experience in managing complex multiple projects or leading large groups of multi-disciplinary professional staff.
