Summary of the role
Provide a Real Time Information (RTI) daily reporting tax service for all UK reporting for Phoenix and Aviva accounts and all other tax reporting and taxation claims for UK and non-UK for Phoenix account. Including Eire Real Time Reporting (RTR).
What you'll be doing
- Check daily RTI reporting for Phoenix and Aviva and arrange correction the same day for any files rejected by HMRC, to ensure same day re-submission to avoid HMRC penalties for late reporting.
- Reconcile daily and monthly the amount to be paid to HMRC by strict monthly deadlines for Phoenix and Aviva accounts. Investigate and resolve any discrepancies to ensure correct payments are made on behalf of both clients.
- Check daily RTR reporting for Phoenix and arrange correction the same day for any fields rejected by the Eire Revenue, reconcile and investigate and resolve any discrepancies to ensure correct payments are paid to the Eire Revenue.
- Prepare claims to deadline for pension tax relief in respect of personal pensions, stakeholder and FSAVC contracts, monthly and annually, to ensure reimbursement to Phoenix is timely.
- Check PAYE returns prior to submission to HMRC. Undertake audits of PAYE processes and provide relevant feedback to management.
- As required, complete regulatory HMRC reporting for Phoenix within deadlines to avoid penalties and ensure maintenance of excellent HMRC relationship, including: Year End activities, Annual COM100, Chargeable Event Reporting, Event Reporting, ISA returns, quarterly Accounting for Tax, FATCA, HMRC statistical returns, Pension Savings Certificates, Pension Scheme Returns, IOM annual return, IOM annual Tax Tapes, Austrian Fire and Insurance Tax and Irish Return of Payments.
- Sample check to identify and correct any errors prior to submission to avoid inaccurate reporting and potential penalties.
- Handle all tax referrals for guidance from Phoenix and Aviva Operations areas.
- Investigate and correct any tax incidents for Phoenix account and give guidance for Aviva incident teams.
- Complete all regulatory tax reporting for Guernsey, Jersey and Isle of Man tax authorities on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis by the deadlines to avoid penalties.
- Produce and maintain tax procedure guides, utilising own specialist skills, to ensure all team can cover all roles as required.
What we're looking for
- Minimum 5 years' experience within Phoenix Operations pensions or within an external finance/tax role.
- Excellent understanding of taxation in relation to pensions, both UK and non-UK.
- Excellent mathematical skills, working with large numbers and spreadsheets.
- Excellent excel skills.
- Ability to reconcile taxation reporting.
- Understanding of Phoenix products, particularly in relation to taxation.
- Ability to spot errors within automated bancs reports and ability to investigate and resolve.
- Good verbal skills to explain complex tax information clearly and simply.
- Methodical approach to record keeping for audit and investigation/incident resolution.
- Willingness to log on in evenings when issues have occurred with RTI, to ensure resolved the same day to avoid HMRC and Eire revenue penalties.
